Many people got a problem with their skin because they don’t know their own skin type. They use a wrong skin treatment for their face. To prevent this kind of situation, we have to know exactly our skin type. How to tell what skin type you have? Let’s check this out.
Oily, combination, sensitive, dry and sun-damaged are 5 basic skin types. “Beauty The New Basics” is a book authored by Rona Berg that tells about the details of five different skin types.
The first thing you have to do is take the “skin test”. Wash your face, pat it dry, then take a few pieces of rice paper or lens-cleaning tissue paper and press on different spots on your face. The paper will stick, pick up oily spots and become translucent that indicated you have an oily skin. Your skin type is dry if the paper doesn’t stick or pick up any oily spots. Then, you have a combination (normal) skin if the paper sticks in your t-zone (forehead, nose and chin). Women that have a combination skin about 70 percent in the world.
Now, let’s talk about the five different skin types and their characteristics.
Type 1: Oily skin. It tends to shiny with pores that enlarged and is flat to blackheads and blemishes. Tightness is something usual that might be happen.
Type 2: Combination/normal skin. It has medium pores, a smooth and even texture, good circulation, healthy colour, may tend toward dryness on the cheeks while being oily in the t-zone.
Type 3: Sensitive skin. It tends to be thin, delicate with fine pores. It flushes easily, is prone to broken capillaries, sometime allergic.
Type 4: Dry skin. It feels tight, especially after cleansing. You have a tendency towards fine wrinkles, flaking and red patches. In women of colour, skin may appear ashy or dull from dead skin build-up.
Type 5: Aging or sun-damaged skin. It also feels tight with visible wrinkles, slack skin tone — especially around the cheeks and jaw line — with leathery texture and broken capillaries.
