New trends in the daily deals industry

It is rare to find anyone who has not purchased a voucher for either a product or service from a group buying site. In fact many people have turned to daily deal websites as a way to attract customers if they are a business; or a source of saving money for customers looking for discounts on products that they need on a daily basis.

This has led to the tremendous growth that is evident in the group buying industry leading to the emergence of top industry players such as Groupon, Living Social, and Scoopon.

These group buying sites have established their presence in many countries thereby giving them a major lead among other daily deal sites on the internet.
In a bid to cement this leadership as well as online presence the leading group buying websites are turning to the trend of acquiring smaller yet successful websites that deal in daily deals so as to increase their market share. For example, LivingSocial has acquired one of the largest daily deals sites in South Korea known as Ticket Monster.

This acquisition expands the presence of LivingSocial in the area which also houses Groupon a major competitor of the group buying site.

On the other hand, Groupon has also purchased nine of its competitors around the world in a bid to establish a monopoly in the countries, such as their Stardeals venture in Australia. It has also increased its social media presence by teaming up with Four Square a popular social network sight which allows users to connect to deals at various locations while using the application.

Google has also set up a platform that will allow them to connect their users to daily deals. The acquisition of Deal Map by Google will allow users to view a variety of daily deals on a map when they sign up for the service.
